Montgomery County Council President Gabe Albornoz and Vice President Evan Glass will hold a media availability on Dec. 13 to discuss the Public Safety Committee’s recent briefing with the county’s police department on crime trends, according to a Dec. 10 council statement.
Ongoing discussions with Montgomery County Public Schools about efforts to bolster the mental health and well-being of students will also be discussed at the event, which will be held at 11:30 a.m., EST, and accessible through the council’s Facebook page, the statement noted.
In addition, Albornoz and Glass will discuss public policy initiatives that they plan to focus on in 2022, including providing ongoing support for those who are suffering financially from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the statement.
As noted in a separate council statement, the council on Dec. 7 unanimously elected Albornoz as president and Glass as vice president; they will serve one-year terms as council officers. Albornoz just completed his term as vice president; chairs the council’s Health and Human Services Committee; and is a member of the council’s Public Safety Committee, the statement added.
Albornoz was elected to the council in 2018, and represents all county residents as an at-large member of the council, according to the statement. Among other things, the statement noted that before joining Montgomery County government, Albornoz worked as the deputy director of the Latin American Youth Center’s Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers.
Glass serves as the Lead for Homelessness and Vulnerable Communities on the Health and Human Services Committee and is a member of the Transportation and Environment Committee, the statement noted. Glass was elected to the council in 2018 as an at-large member and is the first LGBTQ+ councilmember in the county, according to the statement.
Among other things, the statement noted that prior to his council service, Glass was a CNN journalist and served as executive director of Gandhi Brigade Youth Media.
